It’s time for a little Self Care

There are a number of opinions on skincare. Everything from how to moisturize to how to protect yourself from UV rays. Ultimately, caring for your skin is personal, and we all have our skincare routine and favorite products to use.

The goal of any skin-care routine is to tune up your complexion so it’s functioning at its best and troubleshoot or target any areas you want to work on. As our skin changes with age, so do our skincare needs.

This week our focus is on the importance of skincare as we continue our series on Self Care. Today, we’re showcasing another amazing, local talent, Rachel Mendoza. Rachel is a licensed esthetician and graduated top in her class at Eric Fisher Salon. I love receiving services from Rachel! She’s so personable and makes you feel like your her one and only client. I’m going to be completely honest, before attending school for esthetics in 2018 I had never received a facial. That’s right! Not even one. I immediately noticed advantages with my now regular facial regimen and was intrigued.

One of the things I didn’t expect was the improvement in my general health. Facials include massage movements that help with blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, which left me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Getting regular facials every three to four weeks is ideal seeing that that’s how long it takes for your skin to naturally turn over.

So let’s say you’re struggling with bad skin. Whether it’s just around your time of the month or it’s a constant struggle, I would like to give you a couple suggestions to jumpstart your skin care routine.

Number one, and maybe the most important is drink lots of water! Water is not only going to help with the texture of your skin, but is also going to help detox your skin by flushing out the impurities leaving it hydrated and more supple.

Second, try eating foods that are packed with nutrients! A lot of times breakouts begin because of the grease or additives in our food. You would be shocked to see the difference in your skin just by trying to eat healthier. Adding a vitamin like biotin or collagen would be an easy way to get those nutrients in as well and should be taken daily!

Lastly, decide on a skincare regimen that works best for you. I suggest washing and moisturizing your face twice a day and exfoliating 3-4 times a week!

Every facial I perform comes with a back, shoulder, and facial massage which is an amazing stress reliever. With all of the stress that 2020 has brought, taking special care of your mental health is essential.
